Do your motorcycle's
oil change like a pro

Since oil is the blood of your engine, it is a vital operation for your bike. Its quality and cleanliness are therefore essential to its proper functioning.

Level of difficulty : ⭐⭐⭐
Average time needed : 1 hour ⏳

4 GOOD REASONS
TO DO YOUR OIL CHANGE

To protect moving parts

To reduce friction and wear

To protect the engine from corrosion

To participate in engine cooling

When ?

Over the miles, the oil accumulates dirt and becomes less and less efficient and can lead to engine failure if not replaced.

So if you’re getting close to the manufacturer’s recommended mileage limit, or if it’s been almost a year since the oil hasn’t been changed, it’s time to start emptying.

How to change your oil?

First of all, place your bike correctly and then clean the engine (we’ll see how). Finally, put the drain pan under the bike and let's begin!

You will need to follow these steps :
1. Empty the used oil
2. Replace the oil filter
3. Add the new oil

Place your bike

Place your bike on an environmental mat to protect the floor from possible oil stains. Stabilize the bike, position it straight using a stand crutch or the central crutch.

Clean the engine beforehand

Before emptying, we recommend using an engine cleaner, it will eliminate all deposits and clogging. Pour Engine Cleaner into the crankcase up to 10% of your oil capacity when the engine is hot. Turn on the engine and let it idle for approximately 15 minutes.

1. DRAIN THE OLD ENGINE OIL

With the drain pan

Unscrew the oil filler cap, then the drain plug. Allow all used oil to drain, tilt the bike slightly to the right, on the drain plug's side to empty all the oil.

2. REPLACE THE OIL FILTER

2a. Unscrew the old filter l'ancien filtre

Use an oil filter wrench to unscrew and remove the old oil filter that we are going to replace. Put it in the drain pan.

2b. Clean the drain plug

Clean the drain plug with Brake Cleaner and a cloth

Replace the sealing washer and tighten the drain plug.

2c. Replace the oil filter

Before installing the new filter, wipe the oil filter span with a cloth and apply a thing layer of new oil on the O-ring. The new oil filter can now be installed and hand-tightened.

You can now close and set aside the drain pan to avoid shoving it and putting used oil everywhere. You will no longer need it!

3. ADD THE NEW OIL

3a. Top up

Make sure the bike is straight to top it up. Fill the oil pan with the oil suitable for your bike.

Tip

Be careful, do not exceed the maximum level indicated and stop just below. Overfilling this tank can seriously damage the engine by creating overpressure.

Run the engine for 2 to 3 minutes so that the oil can be well distributed into the engine. Turn it off, wait a few minutes to allow the oil to cool down and fill the pan again still without exceeding the maximum level.

Put the oil filler cap back on, wipe down any oil residue that might have spilled on the bike and around the oil filter. Use Brake Cleaner and a cloth!

CHECK THE LEVELS DAILY

Often check the oil level and make sure that it never goes below the minimum level indicated, if there is not enough oil you risk an engine failure.

Think about recycling!

Do not empty the used oil in a sink or toilet. The used oil is recycled at a waste disposal site. Our drain pan is super convenient for this, it is equipped with a handle to facilitate transport. And you don’t risk spilling it everywhere!

The essentials in video

To continue, we suggest watching our video tutorial on the same subject.

And we're done! You can now do your oil change like a pro!

After any intervention on your bike, we recommend going for a small ride at cruising speed, this will allow you to control that everything is in place and that the operation has been carried out properly.

Enjoy your ride !
